If Google owned Whatsapp, they'd rename it Google Messages (not to be confused with Google Messages, the SMS/RCS app) and then cancel it for some arbitrary reason, just to launch another platform nobody signs up for. Now, install the Google Duo app on your Samsung TV, and enjoy a group video call on your TV using the Google Duo app. Up to 32 people can join in a group video call on Google Duo. Why would you use Google messaging services when you could use anybody else? Google Duo is a free and simple video calling app that brings you face-to-face with the people who matter most. Google will never be successful because they are their own worst enemy, and users now have a decade+ of going through it to not trust them anymore. Instead of consolidation in their platforms and investing time to get things off the ground, they are more concerned with niche platforms for one thing only, duplicate apps for seemingly different use cases (allo vs meet), and killing off legacy platforms that users had fond memories of (hangouts), not to mention their Google branding always stamped on top means that any negativity gets directly linked to the brand. What they have is a tarnished reputation.

I could say that Google has no communication strategy going forwards, but that would be inaccurate.
